Senior Company 2018
For experienced students in Grades 9-12 (maximum of 12 students).
Downtown Toronto (Winter & Spring)
The Senior Company is YPT’s most advanced program for students who are committed to train intensively in the craft of acting. Each year, the program will be inspired by the theme of YPT’s season. Through a combination of working on a short play and professional workshops, Senior Company members will study various established acting techniques which will develop their performance skills.
This two-term program will culminate in a showcase of the students’ work to be performed on the Mainstage at YPT. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in the directed readings of our Writers’ Bloc presentations in March.
The Senior Company is for anyone who is interested in:
- studying a variety of acting techniques,
- developing in-depth performance skills,
- working with pivotal texts,
- engaging with the wider theatre community, and
- performing the final readings of the Writers’ Bloc participants’ work.
How old do I have to be and what experience do I need?
If you are in Grade 9-12, you can audition for the Senior Company. Prior experience in drama is required, be it at YPT, your school or another arts organization. If you are new to YPT we recommend you first take Grade 9-12 Advanced Drama and/or The Actors’ Craft in the Fall.
When does the Senior Company meet?
The Senior Company meets over two terms on Saturdays from 2pm-5pm, downtown at YPT.
The first session will be on January 6, 2018. The program culminates in a final presentation in which the Senior Company performs their work on the Mainstage for family and friends. The final presentation evening will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018.
You can download a copy of the class schedule here. Please note there are no classes on Easter and Victoria Day weekends, but classes will be held on Family Day weekend.
You and your parent/caregiver will be required to sign off on an attendance form, indicating that you are available for all sessions.
How do I apply?
You will need to audition for a place in the Senior Company each year.
Admission by audition: In order to be scheduled for the December audition, please fill out an Expression of Interest form and email it to email@example.com. You will be required to submit a completed Registration Form for Senior Company. Please note: We will not process your payment until a spot has been offered and accepted by the student.
As spots in the Senior Company are limited, we encourage students who wish to guarantee Winter and/or Spring term programming to simultaneously register for the Gr. 9-12 Advanced Drama class. Payment will be transferred if student is accepted into the Senior Company. If you have any questions, please call Breanne Ritchie, Drama School Coordinator at 416.363.5131 x263.
Audition dates: December 8th & 9th, 2017
Auditions will be approximately 45 minutes long. There are 3 parts to the audition:

- Monologue: A memorized contemporary monologue, no longer than 1 minute in length, selected from provided options*.
- Scene: You will workshop a two-person scene with another auditionee. This will involve working with a redirection. You will not be required to memorize the scene, but we ask that you are very familiar with both roles, so that you are able to be conscious of your scene choices, and connect with your scene partner.
*Monologue options and Scene will be emailed upon confirmation of your audition.
Kindly bring a photo of yourself to the audition. This does not need to be a headshot or appear to be professional in any way; photocopies are perfectly fine.
