Artistic
At YPT, we create theatre to have a positive and lasting impact on the emotional, social, and intellectual development of young people. Three streams of performance are given importance. Firstly, the classics of children's literature from around the world offer children membership in an ancient childhood, renewing in them the images and inspirations of our own lives as children. Secondly, contemporary works and vigorous new play development ensure continuing relevance to the real lives of kids. Finally, our Drama School creates theatre for youth by youth.
Our audience at YPT is made up of children, and the people who care about them. We play to all ages and stages of childhood from 3-18 years, with a preponderance of work for 7-12 year olds. We create work in our 465-seat Mainstage, the Susan Douglas Rubes Theatre, and the 115-seat Nathan Cohen Studio Theatre. We are also proud to present work from other theatre for young audiences companies from across Canada as part of our season.
This section of our website will provide further information for those artists who are interested in auditioning for YPT or submitting their work or ideas to us. Submissions can be made following the guidelines in the sections below or to us in our capacity as recommenders for the Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creators Reserve.
